Adopted Clarington Official Plan
November 1, 2016
The Municipality released the Draft Official Plan 2016 in May of this year for public review and comment. Over 100 submissions were
received from the public.
On November 1, 2016, Clarington Council adopted the Municipality's Official Plan Amendment No. 107, which updates the Clarington
Official Plan to make sure it is relevant and complies with provincial and regional planning documents and overarching community goals
for growth and development.
The Plan includes new policies that provide for a more urban community, creates walkable neighbourhoods, builds great public
spaces, and creates complete streets designed for people and not just cars. It also plans for the future development of Clarington to become a fully rounded community with jobs and services for residents and protects key environmental and agricultural lands.
The Council adopted Official Plan Amendment No. 107 will be forwarded to the Region of Durham
for its review and ultimate approval. The Region must determine whether Clarington's Amendment
conforms with the Province's Growth Plan, the Greenbelt Plan and Durham Region's Official Plan.
The Region may require changes or modifications prior to approving the Amendment. Once the Amendment is approved it becomes in full force and effect.
